song sequence

Hi,

Since this update, for any given title, or "CD",song, or "track", selection no longer moves in regular sequence, i.e.track 1 to 2 to 3 and so on. The automatic progression is haphazard, going randomly from say 1 to 3 to 5 or 1 to 7 or 9, or 8, then sometimes back to 1, even jumping from a track in one title to another title, then to yet another title. In other words totally unmanageably, with no chance of completing a given piece of music, e.g. a symphony or suchlike.

Is there a solution to this, any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi Roedael,

I understand that iTunes seems to be unexpectedly shuffling the order of albums when attempting to play the album's songs sequentially. In iTunes 12.5 the shuffle button appears at the top center of the iTunes window.

Turn shuffle on or off: Click the Shuffle button.

Shuffle is on when a gray box appears.

  • Shuffle albums or groupings: Choose Controls > Shuffle > Albums (or Groupings). iTunes plays the songs in the order in which they appear on the album or in the grouping, and then chooses another album or grouping at random.

  • Shuffle the songs in an album: Click Shuffle below the album art.

Alternatively, you can access shuffle settings from the Controls menu > Shuffle.

Hail darren.s, "Would that it were so simple", (with due acknowledgments to thereon brothers et al). Your kind reply pointed me in the right direction but at no time did I activate the shuffle function. Since upgrading to 12.5.1, the random song and album shift took place anyway. Delving further, I noticed that the "Next" feature User uploaded file now populates the Up Next list with not just the titles of the album selected but with what appears to be an arbitrary "Playlist" so from thereon things go haywire as I previously described. Previously, an album selected would play through to the end stop there. Now it seems to follow the randomly populated Up Next list. I suppose we'll have to put up with this seemingly "imposed" behavior. So be it. The way round this seems to be: prior to playing an album, clear the Up Next list, then drag and drop the songs (tracks) that are to to be played onto the Next logo so that only these are played. Seems to work so far, but I'm prepared to admit that I may have missed a trick, or two, or more!

I have this problem, too. It used to be (since the beginning of iTunes), that if you click on a song in an album, the following album tracks would play sequentially (assuming "shuffle" wasn't engaged). This is completely logical. Now, I click a song in an album and the next song is randomly selected from that album (I don't have "shuffle" engaged in any way — of which there now seems to be 1000s). It's absolutely frustrating.

Adding an entire album to the "Up Next" list every time you want to hear tracks played in sequential order is absurd (not as a discovered workaround — I'm referring to the fact that it has to be done at all).

I would love to find out that I'm simply missing something obvious here.
